Hi + Welcome to Wingspan Wellness!
My name is Courtney and I am a twenty-something living in Houston, Texas with my husband, Austin. Anyone who knows me knows that I love ALL things Texas (yes, I'm one of those people!) and, although living in NYC was a dream, am so happy to be back. There's nothing I love more than sunshine, laughter, a good sweat sesh, puppies, and spending some QT in the kitchen.
In the fall of 2014, I challenged my family to log all of their eating and exercise habits leading up to Thanksgiving. Whoever stayed on track the most would receive a prize on Thanksgiving day. In reality, I created this challenge in an effort to clean up my eating so that I wouldn't feel guilty eating whatever I wanted come Turkey Day. Funny enough, life got in the way and I ended up losing the competition to my mom. Fast forward 2 1/2 years, she's now down 90 lbs because of my lifestyle coaching. I've worked with her on maintaining a healthy and realistic diet that keeps her satisfied, healthy, and happy. She was the real catalyst for me to pursue my passions, inspiring me to help others.
So long story short...after four+ years in my marketing career, I decided that it was transition into health and wellness full-time. I'm now a student at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, learning things like how emotional and spiritual stability can play a bigger role in our health than the food on our plate, how relationships play into our physical well-being, and how food impacts our body's ability to function. There are so many things that contribute to our well-being and it's important to address them all when considering health and happiness. Although they are integral pieces, it's truly so much more than just diet and exercise.
There is such a wide range of data immediately available in our world today – at the touch of a fingertip you can find articles saying this and that about what is good for you and what is not; it’s fairly easy to be confused as to what is best for your body. As many have, I have delved into this black hole of diet and exercise recommendations to try to better understand my own body, only to be left feeling as though the “truth” was ambiguous and often times even conflicting.
The takeaway from all of this research for me was (and still is) that each of us has to find our own truth (i.e.: what makes us feel radiant from the inside out). I am extremely passionate about maintaining this balance in my own life and about helping others to find their tailored “truth” through a well rounded lifestyle. And that's where Wingspan Wellness comes in.
I can't wait to share with you. xx C
